Semantic similarity, not literal matching
When you repeat a line you almost never say it the same way: you change a word, the order or the tone. The comparison works on meaning, so two similar attempts group together even when the text does not match character for character.
Why the last one is usually the good one
When someone repeats, the last take is almost always the one that worked: that is why it is the default. Even so, every group can be reassigned by hand, and the discarded footage stays in the project in case you change your mind.
